Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore
Felipe Schiller de Rezende (Bradenton, Fla.) scored his first goal of the season as the Nichols College men's soccer team defeated Roger Williams 1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field.
The 3-0-1 start in CCC-play for the Bison is the best start in conference since 2010 when they started 6-0-1 before dropping their first game to Gordon, 1-0. Nichols went on to win the conference tournament that season and went on to play in the NCAA tournament.
Neither team could get anything going in the first half, as only the Bison had a shot on goal.
In the 54th minute, junior
Isaac Alvarenga (Marlborough, Mass.) crossed the ball to the top of the box from the right side in which junior
Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) fired off a shot that was blocked by a Hawk defenseman. The ball then rolled straight to the feet of Schiller de Rezende, who potted a goal into the lower left corner of the net.
The Bison held the Hawks to only three shots in the second half and only seven for the game as Nichols ended the game with 19.
Prazeres led all Bison with five shots while sophomore
Tyler Brenner (Stuart, Fla.) had four. Senior Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, Conn.) and freshman Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.) led the way for the Hawks with two shots apiece.
Senior goaltender
Jeremy Nash (West Springfield, Mass.) stopped two shots and improves to 4-0-2 on the season. All four of Nash's victories have been by way of the shutout. Senior Tom Mangels (Garden City, N.Y.) takes the loss after registering six saves, and falls to 5-5-1 on the year.
"The guys played the style of soccer we should be playing," said Nichols College head coach
Chris Traina. "
We needed to bounce back after the loss prior to this. This is a good win against a good team."
The Bison travel to take on Salem State on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Hawks host Bridgewater State on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
