Bison upended by Leopards, 4-0

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – The Nichols College women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

The Leopards, who will be seeded seventh in the upcoming CCC Tournament, improve to 8-8-2 overall (3-5-1 CCC) while the Bison await their playoff fate, sitting at 7-11-0 (2-7-0).

Wentworth was able to strike first on the scoreboard at 27:15. On her third corner of the half, sophomore Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) was able to send the ball to sophomore Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.), who headed the ball in the net towards the left side post.

Nichols looked poised to tie the match in the 30th minute, when freshman Meghan Dunn (Dudley, Mass.) was awarded a free kick just outside the box. Dunn was unable to put the shot in the back of the net, as the ball sailed wide left. Wentworth outshot Nichols 7-5 in the first, but the Bison were able to put three shots on goal, as opposed to the Leopards' two.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Leopards opened up the scoring by scoring two goals in 47 seconds. Sophomore Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) threaded a pass through a couple of Bison defenders to senior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.), who sent the shot to the lower right side of the net at 56:34. The third goal, which came at 57:21, started with a long pass from sophomore Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) to senior Tori Armishaw (Scarborough, Maine). Armishaw sent the long strike to the top left corner of the net to give Wentworth the 3-0 lead.

The Leopard's final goal was scored by senior Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) when she scored her first career goal at 83:44.

The Bison were paced by sophomore Jillian Krish (Rockland, Mass.) with three shots while Dunn and senior Michelle Gardner (Ayer, Mass.) had two. Senior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) led the Leopards with five shots.

Junior Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) made six saves for the Bison. Wentworth held a 22-9 shot advantage and a 5-0 edge on corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.)  made four saves in 78:06 while classmate Beverly Farris (Palmer, Mass.) finished the game without needing to make a save.

The Leopards will travel to a second-seeded opponent to be determined in a CCC Quarterfinal on Saturday.
