Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – Junior
Patrick DeRosa (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season as the Nichols College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to Fitchburg State 3-2 Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Elliot Field.
The score remained locked tied 0-0 until the 42nd minute when DeRosa put the Bison up 1-0 on a penalty shot, which beat senior Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) to the left side.
The Falcons evened the score at a goal apiece at 51:41 when sophomore Jared Burns (East Bridgewater, Mass.) received a pass from freshman Kevin Aldrovandi (Carver, Mass.) just inside the box and put it past junior
Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) to the left side.
Nichols (7-1-2) regained the advantage in the 58th minute when sophomore
Ian Miller (Shrewsbury, Mass.) found the back of the net on a pass by freshman
Rielee Mohsin (Stuart, Fla.). Fitchburg State (5-4-0) tied things up 2-2 on a penalty shot at 65:10 when Aldrovandi tallied his first collegiate marker.
Burns would pot his second goal of the contest and the eventual game-winner with a chip over Geas's head on a through-ball pass from junior Tom Sorrentino (West Haven, Conn.), as the Falcons secured the 3-2 win.
Hanratty finished with nine stops and improves to 5-4-0 on the year, while Geas falls to had eight saves in the setback.
Overall, Fitchburg State held a 23-18 edge in shots, while both teams combined for 42 fouls, 15 yellow cards, and one red card.
The Bison host conference rival Roger Williams on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Nichols Soccer Field. The Falcons host MCLA on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
