Bison take care of Mustangs 9-4

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Junior Joe Sposit (Cleveland, Ohio) picked up his second hat trick of the season to lead the Nichols College men's hockey team to a 9-4 win over Morrisville Saturday evening at Levy Rink.
 
Nichols (9-3-2) scored five goals in the first period and matched a season high with nine goals for the game scored by six different student-athletes. 
 
Freshman Mike Weaver (Wakefield, Mass.) got the scoring started in the first period at 9:41 after sending one by Mustangs senior goalie Christopher Azzano (Oshawa, Ontario). He was assisted on the play by junior Brett Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) and sophomore Sean Fleming (Eastampton, N.J.).
 
The Bison kept things rolling in the first period ,scoring four more goals in a six-minute span and matched their season high with nine goals on the evening.
 
"We had a good start tonight," said Nichols men's hockey coach Kevin Swallow. "We have a tendency to get off to a slow start so it was a nice change and we didn't look back from there."
 
Twelve different Bison recorded a point on the evening, including goals by senior Josh DeLoach (Tampa, Fla.), freshman Matt Rasamowicz (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Fleming, Sposit, Weaver, and junior Mike Schwartz (Long Beach, N.Y.).
 
Senior Dylan Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.) picked up 31 saves and moved to 2-0-0 on the season.
 
Morrisville was led by freshman John Doyle (New Lowell, Ontario) with 10 shots to go with his third-period goal. Junior Matthew Beer (Corunna, Ontario), senior Daniel Morello (Vaughan, Ontario), and freshman Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) also provided goals for the Mustangs.
 
"For us to score nine and have our top line held off the board is huge," said Swallow.  "A lot of different guys stepped up which is really good to see."
 
The Bison host Manhattanville on Tuesday at 8:10 p.m. at Levy Rink.  Morrisvillle travels to Becker tomorrow afternoon at 3:20 p.m.
