SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Nichols College men's soccer deal was dealt its first loss of the season on Saturday, a 2-0 setback at Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Western New England at Suprenant Field.
Junior Jeremy Nash (Springfield, Mass.) made eight saves for the Bison (5-1-3, 2-1-0 CCC), who were outshot 13-12. The win moves the Golden Bears to 7-2-1 (2-1-0 CCC).
Nichols held a 6-2 edge in shots through the opening 45 minutes, but neither team was able to score. Each goalkeeper was credited with one save.
In the second half, senior Jake Bartnik (East Longmeadow, Mass.) put the Golden Bears in front 1-0 with an unassisted marker at 66:07. Just over five minutes later, senior Kevin Parma (Peconic, N.Y.) netted his first goal of the season on a penalty kick to double the WNE lead.
That was all the support senior Domenick Vollano (Bronxville, N.Y.) needed as he finished with three saves to lift his record to 7-2-1. Nash fell to 5-1-3 with the defeat. Sophomore Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) finished with a team-high four shots for Nichols.
Nichols hosts Gordon Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Vendetti Field. Western New England plays at Springfield on October 1 at 7 p.m.
