Leopards edge Bison in double overtime, 2-1

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – Junior Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.) recorded 12 saves in Nichols College's 1-0 double overtime loss to Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.

Junior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at 103:48 when she redirected a cross from freshman Kristen Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) with her head and past Whitestone.

The Leopards (2-4-1, 1-1-0 CCC) outshot the Bison 20-7 – including 5-1 in the extra sessions – and held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Alyssa Tosti (Douglas, Mass.) led the Bison with four shots while Moore took a game-high six.

"Part of our game plan was waiting for them to come to us," said Nichols head coach Damir Pesa. "We looked for counter-attacks, which we had. We worked so hard defensively to deny their strikers the ball. We had chances in the end and we didn't finish. That's what is going to put us over the hump in these overtime games."

WIT sophomore Miranda Stuckey (Lafayette, Ind.) made three saves to move to 2-3-1 on the season.

The Bison (4-4-0, 0-2-0 CCC) return to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. home match with Fisher. Wentworth plays at WPI Tuesday at 7 p.m.
