Nichols downs CCC foe Eastern Nazarene, 9-0

QUINCY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win at Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.

The Bison's No. 1 doubles team of senior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and freshman Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) posted an 8-0 win over senior Julie Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, NJ.Y.).

At No. 3 doubles, senior Erin Rivers (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) were nearly perfect as well, scoring an 8-1 win over junior Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) and sophomore Jordan Price (Snow Hill, Md.). Juniors Katie Malloy (Norwell, Mass.) and Samantha Rydell (Williamstown, Mass.) were also victorious, posting an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over freshmen Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine).

Sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) moved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Layton. Dyakiv, meanwhile, recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Burrello at No. 2 singles to move her singles record to 4-1 as well. In the process, she climbed to within five wins of the program record for career victories of 52, set by Maria Balabanova (2006; 2008-10).

Szepanski was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles over Atwater, freshman Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.) notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lariviere at No. 4 singles, Malloy downed Mohnkern 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Keklik upended Price 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Bison (3-2, 2-0 CCC) host Colby-Sawyer Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern Nazarene (1-3, 0-3 CCC) hosts Salve Regina Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
