Palmerino's goal lifts Bison past UNE, 1-0

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. - Senior Scott Palmerino (Southbridge, Mass.) scored his team-leading third goal of the season 13:38 into the match to lift the Nichols College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival UNE Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.

Junior Jeremy Nash (West Springfield, Mass.) recorded five saves as the Bison remained unbeaten on the season at 4-0-1 (1-0-0 CCC). Junior Adam McPartland (Brockville, Ontario) made 13 saves for the Nor'easters (3-1-1, 0-1-0 CCC), who suffered their first loss of the season.

The Bison outshot the Nor'easters 32-6 on the afternoon and had several quality scoring chances throughout the match. The only goal came when Palmerino outran a pair of defenders and fired a shot that snuck under a diving McPartland and into the right side of the net.

"This was a great match for us, and a win in conference is always a good thing," said Nichols head coach Chris Traina. "We came out very strong and carried play in the first half. UNE changed some things around ad we absorbed a little bit of pressure. Overall, I'm happy with what we did today. Their keeper came up huge a few times for them and their defenders blocked quite a few shots."

Sophomore Finn Ducker (Winslow, Maine) had a team-high two shots for UNE.

The Bison return to action on Wednesday when they head to Buzzards Bay, Mass. for a 7 p.m. contest with Massachusetts Maritime. The Nor'easters head to Saint Joseph's (Me.) for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday.
