Bison score 7-2 win over non-conference foe Clark (MA)

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Nichols College women's tennis team scored a 7-2 win over Clark (MA) University in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.

Senior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) was in full control of the No. 2 singles match against Cougars senior Rose Burberry-Martin (Uxbridge, Mass.), winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1 match was much of the same as junior Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) defeated sophomore Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.), 6-1, 6-0.

Nichols junior Katie Malloy (Norwell, Mass.) also had no trouble in her singles match, defeating Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.

The Bison's doubles teams swept the Cougars. The No. 1 team of Dyakiv and freshman Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) were victorious over the Cougars top duo of Hughes and Burberry-Martin, 8-2. In the No. 2 match, Benoit and freshman Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.) controlled the match against Kravetz and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine), winning 8-2 as well.

The Cougars two points were earned on the singles side, with freshman Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.) defeating junior Kasie Chapin (West Springfield, Mass.) in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) was able to best Carey at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Nichols is back in action Sunday at 11:00 am when it takes on the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College. Clark's next match will be Monday at home against Gordon College.
