DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Julie Monroe (Whitman, Mass.) recorded 16 saves in Nichols College's season-opening 2-0 loss to Mount Holyoke College in non-conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.
Junior Cassidy Robinson (Lebanon, N.H.) and freshman Autumn Buck (Holyoke, Mass.) scored second-half goals 11 minutes apart for the Lyons (1-0-0), who outshot the Bison 23-6 on the afternoon.
Mount Holyoke held a 13-4 edge in shots through the opening 45 minutes but was held scoreless as Monroe made 11 saves. Buck broke the scoreless tie at 62:20 was a long shot that fell over the head of Monroe and into the net. Robinson's marker at 73:50 sailed past the outstretched hand of Monroe and doubled the visitor's lead.
Freshman Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ontario) stopped six shots to earn her first collegiate victory for MHC. Sophomore Michelle Gardner (Ayer, Mass.) posted a team high two shots for Nichols.
The Bison return to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home match against Wheelock. The Lyons head to Lyndon State on Monday for a 1 p.m. contest.
