Gillis nets five in loss at Salve Regina

DUDLEY, Mass. - Nichols College senior Macaulay Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) scored five goals in Nichols College's 18-9 loss at Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday night at Gaudet Field.

Freshman Brian Hancock (Groton, Mass.) potted three goals for the Bison (3-8, 0-5 CCC), who have now lost two-straight and five of their last six. Gillis led the team with six ground balls while senior Marc Miller (Trumbull, Conn.) collected four. Sophomore Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) caused a team-high three turnovers.

For the Seahawks, freshman James Fee (Massapequa, N.Y.) collected six points (4-2-6) while juniors Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) and Dan Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.), along with freshman Jake Pantani (Branford, Conn.), each tallied three goals. Salve Regina outshot Nichols 45-37.

Salve Regina led 5-1 after one behind two goals from Fee, and the lead to swelled to 8-3 at halftime. Gillis netted a pair of goals in the opening 30 minutes for Nichols before Fee capped off his hat trick with 1:13 left in the half.

A pair of goals by Pantani to open the second half pushed the SRU lead to 10-3, and the quarter closed with the home team in front 14-7. Hancock scored all three of his goals in the quarter while Parks also netted a pair for the Seahawks. After Gillis opened the fourth with his 18th of the season, Salve Regina reeled off four-straight to move in front 18-8. Gillis closed the scoring with 15 seconds remaining. 

Freshman Seth Drouin (Madison, Conn.) was credited with 10 saves as he slipped to 3-8 on the season. Freshman Brian Farina (Jenkinstown, Pa.) made 14 saves before being lifted late in the fourth quarter to earn the win. 

The Bison host Curry Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Salve Regina (4-8, 1-3 CCC) plays at Gordon at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
