Corsairs down Bison, 12-8

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Sophomore Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) scored four goals in Nichols College's 12-8 loss at UMass Dartmouth in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
 
The Corsairs (5-0) scored the first seven goals of the game and led 8-1 at halftime. Junior Adam Niden (Walpole, Mass.), along with juniors Todd Davis (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Jordan MacPherson (Westwood, Mass.), scored within 2:22 in the first quarter to ignite the Corsairs' opening rally. Sophomore Connor Gaffney (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Nicklaus Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) each added a pair of goals before halftime as UMD took a commanding lead.
 
MacPherson and Davis struck again early in the third quarter to extend the Corsairs lead to 10-1 before four-straight goals from Bane cut the Nichols deficit to 10-5. Prozinski scored early in the fourth quarter to make it 11-5, but the Bison scored three of the final four goals to account for the final margin.
 
Freshman Brian Hancock (Groton, Mass.) added a pair of goals for Nichols while senior Macaulay Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) notched a goal and five helpers. Prozinski had three goals for the Corsairs, while Baxter, Gaffney, Davis and MacPherson each scored twice.
 
UMass Dartmouth out shot Nichols, 48-25. Junior goaltender Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, Mass.) made nine saves for the Corsairs while freshman Seth Drouin (Madison, Conn.) and junior Matt McGue (Quincy, Mass.) combined to make 16 stops for the Bison. UMass Dartmouth converted two of seven extra-man opportunities while Nichols was two of four.
 
The Bison return to action on Friday with a 6 p.m. home contest against Thomas (ME) at 6 p.m.  UMass Dartmouth will visits Western Connecticut State in two weeks.
