Bison roll past Colonels, 8-1

MILTON, Mass. - The Nichols College women's tennis team improved to 9-3 (6-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference) with an 8-1 win at Curry College Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and freshman Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) had no trouble taking care of the No. 1 doubles team of senior Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) 8-2. No. 2 duo of junior Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) and freshman Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.) defeated senior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) 9-7.

Colonels No. 3 team of senior Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) and senior Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) defeated senior Erin Rivers (Bristol, R.I.) and sophomore Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) 8-5.

On the singles side of things, Bison swept the Colonels in straight sets in each of the matches. No. 1 Dyakiv defeated Mulrooney 6-1, 6-2 while Benoit breezed through Mongello 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Szepanski continued her strong play of late, defeating freshman Molly Louis (Guilford, Conn.) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.

No. 4 Carey defeated Chuha 6-1, 6-4 while No. 5 junior Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) played a tough match with Love before coming out on top 6-4, 7-5. Junior Katie Malloy (Norwell, Mass.) defeated freshman Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) 6-0, 6-1 to round things out at No. 6.

Nichols returns to action on Friday when it hosts conference rival Salve Regina at the Robinson Tennis Courts at 4:00 p.m. Curry travels to Western New England on Saturday for a CCC match beginning at 12:00 p.m.
