NEW LONDON, N.H.  – Senior captains Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) each won their respective singles flights in a pair of matches as the Nichols women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Clark this afternoon following a 5-4 defeat to host Colby-Sawyer at Kelsey Courts on Monday. The Bison now sit at 1-2 heading into a home match against Wheaton on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
 
In the morning session, junior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) topped their competition 9-8 (7-5) for the squad's lone doubles point. Later in the match, Dyakiv collected a win at the first singles flight 6-4, 6-1 as Cifone and McQuiggan took down their opponents 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively. Sophomore Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) rebounded from a 6-3 defeat in the first set to take the second by a score of 6-1 before ultimately falling 10-7.
 
The nightcap began with a pair of close matches as Dyakiv was paired with McQuiggan for a 9-8 (7-5) win as senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) and junior Erin Rivers (Bristol, Conn.) earned a 9-8 (7-3) victory at the third flight.  Cifone cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third doubles flight as McQuiggan emerged with a 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6) triumph. Benoit claimed the second singles flight with a pair of 7-5 sets while Woodruff (6-1, 6-1) took the fifth flight and sophomore Samantha Rydell (Williamstown, Mass.) was successful at the sixth flight (6-3, 6-1).
