Second Half Dooms Bison in 3-2 Defeat at Gordon

Whittle and Coderre share team lead with seven goals on the season

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. - Senior Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) and first-year Donny Whittle (Ellington, Conn.) each scored their seventh goal of the season as the Nichols College men's soccer team shouldered a 3-2 defeat to Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Saturday. Gordon improves to 3-6-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in the league while the Bison dip to 6-5-0 overall and even out at 2-2 in the conference.

After 31 minutes of back and forth play the Scots broke the drought when sophomore Kristian Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) netted his first goal of the season to put Gordon on top 1-0. From there the Bison battled back with vengeance scoring twice in the following three minutes. Their first goal came at 32:18 when Coderre finished on a cross from Whittle to tie the match. Just over two minutes later Whittle found the back of the net to give the Bison the 2-1 lead going into the break.

Gordon's second goal was earned in the 75th minute when senior Nick White (Glenside, Pa.) finished a throw-in from rookie Chris Carlson (South Hamilton, Mass.) that caromed off the head of sophomore Alek Duba (Bristol, N.H.). In the 82nd minute Scots senior Andy Guthrie (Beaver Falls, Pa.) capitalized on a penalty kick to give Gordon the game-winner.

First-year backstop Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) finished the day with three saves on 10 shots, while Gordon junior Tim Hardy (Gorham, Maine) turned away five in the CCC win.

Nichols takes on Western New England in Dudley on October 6 at 2:00 p.m. while the Scots return to action on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00p.m. as they play host to Endicott College.
