NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) posted her 40th singles victory and sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) collected her 25th singles victory as Nichols improved to 5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the Bison topped Salve Regina, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Leroy Avenue Courts. In addition to remaining unblemished in conference action, Nichols improves to 8-4 on the season. Salve Regina slips to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the loop.
 
Woodruff and junior Erin Rivers (Bristol, Conn.) claimed the third doubles flight 8-4 as Benoit and senior Alex Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) took the first double flight 8-5. Junior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and senior Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) took the second doubles flight 8-5 as the Bison led 3-0 heading into the singles session.
 
Benoit blanked her opponent in the first flight 6-0, 6-0 to reach the 25-win milestone. Cifone surrendered only one game as she won the second single flight 6-1, 6-0. Woodruff earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the third flight as sophomore Samantha Rydell (Williamstown, Mass.) picked up a win at the sixth singles flight 6-1, 6-2. McQuiggan cruised in the first set as she claimed the third singles flight 6-2, 7-5. Salve Regina picked up its lone point as sophomore Erica Shay (Concord, Mass.) defeated junior Nicole Marziarz (Southington, Conn.) 6-4, 6-1.
 
Select student-athletes will be participating in the USTA/ITA New England Division III Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday. The full team is back in action as the Bison host Roger Williams on Sunday at noon.
