Bison Snap Two-Match Skid With 4-1 Victory vs. NEC

Nunn nets first collegiate marker

DUDLEY, Mass. – First-year Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) made three stops and four different Bison found the back of the net as Nichols snapped a two-match skid with a 4-1 victory over visiting New England College in a non-conference men's soccer match on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Bison sport a 5-4 overall record as the Pilgrims leave Dudley with a 5-3-1 ledger.
 
Senior Andrew Conklin (Wading River, N.Y.) found the left corner of the net open as he used his second goal of the season to put the Bison on the scoreboard at 17:20. Later in the half, senior Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) scored his sixth marker of the season as he dribbled through a trio of defenders and beat the keeper at 32:12. Nichols took a 17 of the 20 shots in the half and was awarded three of the four corners of the period.
 
The score remained 2-0 despite a great opportunity by New England College to slice into the hosts lead at 56:24. Sophomore Manny Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.) tried to deposit a cross from sophomore Julian Yourawski (Peabody, Mass.) but the ball deflected off the Geas and was cleared out by sophomore Phil Mitto (Windsor, Conn.). With 61:00 showing on the scoreboard, first-year Donny Whittle (Ellington, Conn.) netted his fifth tally of the season as a fired a laser from 25 yards out into the top left corner. Rookie Ryan Nunn (Old Lyme, Conn.) followed with his first collegiate marker in the 71st minute as he netted a feed from classmate Christian Cole (Gaithersburg, Md.). Pilgrim junior David Walker (Gabon, Africa) broke up the shutout with his first goal of the season at 84:27. For the match, Nichols held a 29-13 advantage in the shot column and doubled up the Pilgrims 4-2 on corners.
 
Geas improves to 5-4 on the year for the Bison. Junior Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) and senior Corey Barbo (Yarmouthport, Mass.) each spent time in net for New England College.
 
Nichols concludes a five-match homestand on Wednesday when Daniel Webster is on the hill for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match. New England College travels to Thomas (ME) on Saturday for a North Atlantic Conference match at 1:00 p.m.
