Bison Winning Streak Snapped by Mass. Maritime, 1-0

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – Mass. Maritime senior Derek Young (Falmouth, Mass.) scored in the eighth minute and classmate Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) collected seven saves as the Buccaneers defeated Nichols, 1-0, on a sun-soaked Wednesday afternoon at Michael J. Vendetti Field in a non-conference matchup. With the win, Mass. Maritime ups its record to 4-1-1 while the Bison see their four-match winning streak snapped and fall to 4-3.

Just as the seventh minute expired Derek Young deposited a feed from senior Adam Rabesa (Falmouth, Mass.) to put the visitors on the scoreboard. First-year Donny Whittle (Ellington, Conn.) had a great chance with 6:33 remaining in the frame but his shot would hit the post. Nichols claimed a slim 6-5 edge on shots as both teams were awarded a pair of corner kicks in the first half.

The Bison applied pressure in the second half as the hosts outshot Mass. Maritime 10-3 and took both corner kick opportunities. Senior Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) looked to score a close range shot with 10:19 left in the match only to have Brett Young make the stop.

Brett Young (4-1-1) picked up his fourth victory and clean sheet of the season for the Buccaneers.

Nichols first-year backstop Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) (4-3) turned away a trio of shots in the setback.

Both lineups are back in conference action on Saturday. The Bison host Roger Williams at 11:30 a.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend. Mass. Maritime ventures to MCLA for a 1:00 p.m. appointment.
