Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Apr. 3) – Senior midfielder Katie Toomy scored six goals with an assist to lead the Western New England women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Nichols in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Sherman added four goals and two assists for the Golden Bears who are now 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Bison are now 3-4 and 0-3 in CCC play.
Nichols started strong using two goals and two assist by senior attacker
Krista-Jean Forand to take a 7-3 lead at the 11:14 mark of the opening half. The visitors were held scoreless over the final 41 minutes, 14 seconds of the game.
Junior attacker Julianne Green and Toomy scored in the final 8:18 as the Golden Bears trailed 7-5 at the break.
Toomy tied the contest at 7-7 following her fourth goal with 25:36 remaining and senior midfielder Liz McRoberts put Western New England ahead for good with 21:12 to play.
Junior attacker Ali Pepe contributed a goal and two assists for the Golden Bears.
Toomy and McRoberts each had five draw controls while senior defender Veronica Miano picked-up six ground balls.
Freshman goalie Emily Castleman finished with nine saves, including seven in the opening half that kept WNE in the game.
Western New England had a 34-19 advantage in shots, including a commanding 17-5 margin in the second stanza.

Grace Murphy had a goal and assist.
