Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. (Apr. 27) – The Clark baseball team banged out 15 hits as the Cougars wrapped up their season with an 18-3 win over Worcester-area rival Nichols on Friday afternoon at Granger Field in a non-conference affair.
Senior Nicholas Kellogg led the offensive charge for Clark going 3-for-5 with three RBI, while classmates Matthew Bohl, Jeremy Gerber and Michael Lamothe all had two hits apiece. The fifth senior – Shawn Lamothe had a hit and three RBI.
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Kellogg blasted a two-run shot to left.
Things stayed that way until the fourth when Gerber and Michael Lamothe each had RBI singles and Shawn Lamothe had a two-run double.
With the score 6-0, Nichols, pushed across a run in the fifth on a
Brett Jackson RBI single through the left side.
Clark added four more runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by an RBI double by Matt Asdornvuttikrai and another run scoring hit by Gerber.
Kellogg opened up the Cougars' six run sixth with a double that banged off the left field wall. He came around to score on double down the left field line by Brian Sullivan. The big blow of the inning came with two outs and the bases loaded, Bohl doubled to deep right center clearing the bases, making the score, 16-1.
Bohl was back in the middle of Clark's next two runs in the eighth when he tripled to center, scoring Shawn Lamothe. He then crossed the plate on a Kellogg double to left.
The Bison scored a pair of runs in the ninth when
John Micciche doubled home
Nick Shaw, who led off the inning with a single. Micciche eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.
Andrew LeBlanc was excellent on the mound for Clark going six innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six.
For the Bison, Jackson, Micciche and Shaw all had two hits each.
The Cougars end their season at 8-26, while Nichols (8-21) returns to action on Saturday when they head to Roger Williams for an important CCC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
