Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. (Mar. 11) – The Nichols College baseball team mounted a pair of seventh inning rallies as the Bison were defeated 13-2 and 5-2 by Lakeland (Wis.) at the Gene Cusic Classic on Sunday.
The Muskies put up five runs in the bottom of the first and went on to score eight more over the next four innings to lead 13-0 heading into the seventh. First-year
Brett Franciosi led off with a walk and would be joined by junior
Bryan Gill two batters later courtesy of another free pass. Sophomore
Shayne McNally then used his first hit of the day to deliver the initial Bison run of the inning. A third walk in the inning loaded the bases and set the stage for a RBI ground out for the final run of the contest.
First-year
Brett Lewis shouldered the loss (0-1) as he would share time on the mound with sophomore
Nick Croteau, junior
John Micciche and junior
Cody Jankins. Lewis fanned a pair of batters while Jankins struck out the side in the sixth. Muskie hurler Mike Ruzek allowed only one hit over six innings and set down seven batters.
Lakeland (2-0) held a 5-0 lead in the second game before the Bison once again found a pair of runs in the seventh inning. An RBI single by senior
Dylan Courtney broke up the shutout. First-year Colin Geagan followed up with a run-producing single to right field.
Junior
James Curto (0-1) went the distance as he scattered five runs – three earned – on eight hits.
McNally collected three hits on the day including a pair in the second game.
Nichols (0-4) will take on Thiel at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow in a single game scheduled to take place at Terry Park 3.
