Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Sarah Marois (Waterford, N.Y.) scored in the 51st minute to lift Western New England past host Nichols 1-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer match played at Michael J. Vendetti Field on Saturday morning.

The first half ended in a 0-0 draw. Nichols junior Shelby Aminti (Pepperell, Mass.) had the best opportunity of the frame as she tried to deposit a free kick at 35:48. The first 45 minutes saw Western New England outshoot the Bison 10-4 and take three of the four corner kicks awarded.

Marois broke up the stalemate at 50:18 when she knocked home a rebound that caromed off the post. Senior Alexis Bshara (West Springfield, Mass.) took the initial shot to setup the scoring opportunity. Sophomore Tayler Mazurski (Wolcott, Conn.) had a chance to net an insurance marker 14 minutes later but her attempt went to the left of the goal. The Golden Bears had a 5-1 advantage in the shot column and doubled up the Bison 2-1 on corner kicks.

Rookie Western New England goalkeeper Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) turned away four shots while moving to 6-7-1 on the season. First-year Bison netminder Melissa Toomey (Saugus, Mass.) collected seven saves in the setback.

Nichols (3-7-2, 0-5-0 CCC) entertains Mount Ida on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. while the Golden Bears (6-7-1, 1-4-0 CCC) travel to Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Wednesday to take on the Trailblazers at 4:00 p.m.
