Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Junior Ellie Arsenault (Saco, Maine) scored with 3:38 elapsed in overtime to give the University of New England women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The win was the third in the last four outings for the Nor'easters (6-9, 4-2 CCC), who last defeated Nichols during the 2008 season. The Bison meanwhile slip to 3-9-2 on the season and 0-6 in the 10-team loop.
Despite out-shooting Nichols 24-8 during regulation, Big Blue was unable to get into the scoring column. The game-deciding tally came on the first shot attempt for either team in the extra session. After a Nichols' defender failed to clear the ball, UNE junior Katy Marshall (Eliot, Maine) connected with Arsenault on a service from the left flank. Arsenault, hovering near the right post, one-timed the cross high over a diving Nichols' keeper
Erica Carey (South Windsor, Conn.), who had come off the goal line to try and deny Marshall's pass.
The marker was Arsenault's first of the season and evened the Nor'easters' record at 1-1 in overtime affairs this year.
Junior Samantha Guyettte (Newport, Vt.) had three saves to register the third shutout in her last four starts for UNE, which wraps up its regular-season home schedule Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. match versus Wentworth.
Carey had a busy afternoon in goal for the Bison, making 13 stops.
Nichols also wraps up its home slate Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. date with Endicott.
