Nichols Tops Anna Maria, 6-1

Miller nets first collegiate goal as Whittle extends goal scoring streak to six matches

Paxton, Mass. – Eight different Bison recorded at least a point as Nichols defeated Anna Maria 6-1 on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer matchup played at AMCAT field.
 
Nichols sophomore Casey Doig (Spofford, N.H.) opened the scoring with a shot from the right side of the field into the upper left corner of the net at 10:08. Senior Thomas Miller (Whitman, Mass.) increased the visitor's advantage with his first collegiate goal in the 18th minute as he buried a cross from senior Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.). Senior Andrew Conklin (Wading River, N.Y.) headed in a rebound off a shot initially taken by Coderre at 20:59 to give the Bison a 3-0 lead.
 
Anna Maria sophomore Bryan Blomgren (Auburn, Mass.) broke up the shutout in the 33rd minute courtesy of a long header from senior Enco Lika (Worcester, Mass./Doherty). Nichols entered the intermission with a 16-6 bulge in shots and an eye-popping 7-1 advantage in corner kick chances.
 
First-year Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) added to the Bison lead as he booted a 20-yard shot over the AMCAT keeper at 51:04. Just over seven minutes later, rookie Donny Whittle (Ellington, Conn.) buried a shot from the left wing for his 10th goal of the season. First-year Christian Cole (Gaithersburg, Md.) completed the scoring as he deposited a cross from classmate Ryan Nunn (Old Lyme, Conn.) with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Each team had a corner kick opportunity while Nichols outshot the hosts 8-2 in the stanza.
 
Bison rookie netminder Douglas Levine (Marblehead, Mass.) was called upon to make one save in his first collegiate victory. First-year Francesco Chiaravalloti (Torrington, Conn.) went untested in the second half for the Bison. Rookies Scott Webster (Ocala, Fla.) and Andrew Dahl (Marlton, N.J.) combined to stop nine shots for the AMCATS.
 
Nichols (9-5-0) heads to University of New England on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference match. Anna Maria (2-11-1) travels to Emmanuel for a 3:00 p.m. GNAC contest on Saturday.
