The former football player and professional wrestler last made a stop in Dudley on January 24, 2010.
Nowinski founded the Sports Legacy Institute in June of 2007 along with Dr. Robert Cantu in reaction to new medical research revealing concussions and brain trauma in sports had become a public health crisis. The SLI has worked with numerous athletes including former New England Patriot Ted Johnson. In 2008, SLI partnered with Boston University School of Medicine to form the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (CSTE). Two years later the NFL gifted $1 million to the CTSE to help fund research.
In early 2011, Nowinski was named a “Top 40 Under 40” by
The Hockey News for his efforts. The Harvard graduate and author of “Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis” has been featured on various news programs including ESPN Outside the Lines, HBO Real Sports, CBS 60 Minutes, and TSN Hockey, in addition to several print articles.
