Caitlin Hitchcock Steps Down as Softball Head Coach

DUDLEY, Mass. (5/14/2026) – Caitlin Hitchcock, head coach of the Nichols softball program since 2022, has announced her decision to step down from her position.

"After thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision to step down as the Head Softball Coach to spend more time with my family," said Hitchcock. "Despite the difficult nature of this decision, I am forever grateful to the student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, and administrators for the opportunity. It has been an honor to represent Nichols College Softball, and I wish the program continued success and growth in the years ahead."

Throughout her tenure on The Hill, Hitchcock posted a 95-75-1 overall record and a 40-32 mark in Conference of New England competition. She was named the CNE's Coach of the Year after leading the Bison to their winningest season as a program (32-13, 12-6 CNE) in 2025, where the team battled their way to the CNE Championship against Western New England, narrowly falling in extra innings, 1-0. Hitchcock also led the Bison to CNE Tournament appearances in each of the prior two campaigns, and coached a total of 17 All-Conference recipients, including 2023 Rookie of the Year (Bailey Littlefield), 2025 Defensive Player of the Year (Allie Silliman), and 2025 Pitcher of the Year (Chelsea Indyk). Additionally, each of those three players were equally named to the 2025 NFCA All-Region II Team.

"I want to sincerely thank Caitlin for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to our softball program and student-athletes over the past four seasons," said Director of Athletics Kristan Mallet. "Caitlin has made a lasting impact on our department through her passion for the game and the relationships she built with her players. We are grateful for everything she has done for Nichols College and wish her nothing but success in the future."

The Division of Athletics will being a national search for the program's next head coach immediately.
