Women's Tennis Earns Split in Sunday Tri-Match

Dyakiv and Benoit remain undefeated

BABSON PARK, Mass.--The Babson College Women's Tennis team swept a tri-match on Sunday with a 6-3 morning victory over Nichols College and a 9-0 afternoon sweep over Colby-Sawyer College at Farwell Courts. In the middle match between Nichols and Colby-Sawyer the Bison earned its second 9-0 triumph of the weekend and now sport a 2-1 overall record.

The Beavers got off to a fast start Sunday morning with the number two doubles team of Rebecca Stone and Minte Tamoshunas, and the number three doubles team of Monica Mercer and Ashley Lake earning quick victories. Stone and Tamoshunas defeated Jillian McQuiggan and Chelsea Miller of Nichols, 8-2. Mercer and Lake got past Alexandra Cifone and Kelsey Peterson, 8-1. Babson's number one doubles team of Alex Freeman and Sarah Whitaker dropped an 8-4 decision to the Bison's Anna Dyakiv and Lindsay Benoit. Benoit and Dyakiv also earned victories in the number one and two singles matches for Nichols. Benoit slipped past Whitaker 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-7 (third set superbreaker) in a match that lasted nearly three hours. Babson picked up singles victories at positions three through six from Stone, Mikaela Stamas, Tamoshunas, and Alexis Ferraro, all in straight sets.

Nichols' Dyakiv and Benoit continued their winning ways in the singles portion downing their opponents 6-1, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. The duo was joined in the win column by Peterson (6-1, 6-2), Nicole Marziarz (6-0, 6-2), Catherine Jaworski (6-3, 7-5) and Samantha Rydell with a pair of 6-0 sets in her first collegiate match. McQuiggan and Miller picked up a win at No. 1 doubles (8-5) while Cifone and Peterson took the No. 2 doubles by an 8-1 margin. Jaworski and Erin Rivers teamed to post an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Nichols heads to Norton, Mass. on Wednesday to face Wheaton in a rematch of this springs NCAA Tournament first round. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer will host in-state rival Plymouth State on Wednesday. Babson returns to the hardcourts on Tuesday when they travel into Boston to take on Simmons.
