Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – A strong offensive attack helped the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Nichols College Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
The Hawks attempted 32 shots on the day at the Bison, 17 of which were on goal. Conversely, Nichols only attempted five shots total in the game.
Despite being outshot over the course of the game, Nichols held the lead early in the goal on a goal in the ninth minute.
Julie Monroe put up a corner kick which found the chest of
Laurel Houle. The ball would be passed to
Jennifer Reichert who then put a shot to the upper left corner for the Bison's score.
The Hawks would come back to tie the game in the 32nd minute, with Tory Benoit hooking a pass from the left side to the middle of the field and finding Katie Fusaro. Fusaro would beat the Bison defender on her and knock in the game-tying goal.
In the 59th minute, Noelle Marston chipped in a shot over the outstretch hand of Nichols keeper
Maureen Lynch to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Less than two minutes later, Kristen Tetreault put in a loose ball on a save from a Fusaro shot. With the goal, the Hawks would gain a two-goal lead that they would not give up.
Stephanie Jaques would only need to make one save in the game for the win. Lynch would make 14 saves for Nichols.
Nichols travels to Becker Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
