DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 13) – Joined by Nichols College President Dr. Susan West Engelkemeyer as their honorary team captain, the Bison women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 9-0 home victory over Salve Regina University Tuesday at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The match was played in front of a large crowd celebrating Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
The Bison improve to 5-3 overall, while the Seahawks dip to 1-2 overall and in conference action.
Nichols led, 3-0, after doubles play after seeing
Jillian McQuiggan and
Chelsey Miller quickly win at the second flight, besting Shannon O'Brien and Meg Olson, 8-3.
CCC Rookie and Player of the Week
Lindsay Benoit was the first to finish on the singles side, defeating Elizabeth DiFilippo, 6-0, 6-1, to put the Bison up, 4-0.
Anna Dyakiv clinched the match at the top singles spot with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Nichol Stevens.
The Seahawks' Erica Shay posted a late rally at the sixth flight against
Kelsey Peterson, but fell, 6-3, 6-3, as dusk was approaching.
Nichols continues CCC play Saturday in an 11 a.m. match at Eastern Nazarene. Salve Regina hosts Rhode Island College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
