Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. - Nichols College men's soccer defender
Phil Mitto netted what would end up being the game-winner in the opening half leading the Bison past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 Thursday afternoon.
With the win the Bison improve to 1-0 on the season, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-1.
Mitto would get the Bison on the board early as he would one-time in a pass from
Danny Smith just 21:37 into the game. The two teams would battle through the remainder of the opening half scoreless as Nichols would hold the 9-0 advantage in shots.
NEC would put on some offense pressure to open the second half as back-to-back Pilgrim shots would get turned away by Nichols keeper
Brendan Hamilton. Nichols would regain offensive control closing out the second half outshooting NEC 8-2.
Nichols finished the game outshooting NEC 17-4 on the afternoon.
Hamilton picked up the win in goal for the Bison finishing the game with two saves. NECs Robert Millard finished the game with an impressive nine saves.
Nichols College travels to take on non-conference foe Plymouth State University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m, New England College returns to action on Saturday, September 3 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Elms College.
