Box Score BRISTOL R.I. (Apr. 9) – Junior Danica Delia led the Hawks with five goals and four assists in a 18-5 win for the Roger Williams women's lacrosse team over Nichols in Saturday's Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) game played on Bayside Field.
Senior Claire Halliday scored four goals and gave out the other three assists for the game to help the Hawks get to 6-1 in conference play. Senior Kate Malenczak and freshman Danielle Neagle each earned a hat trick, while freshman Alli Berno scored one goal.
The goals for Nichols College were spread among five separate players. Freshman
Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.) netted the first goal of the game for the Bison off of a free position shot. The only assist of the game for Nichols came from junior
Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) after junior
Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) was able to find the back of the net.
Roger Williams was on the board quickly, when 1:25 into the game freshman Jessica Searl scored off an assist by Delia. Four other Hawks were able to score in the first 30 minutes of the game. With 2:27 left on the clock, the Bison's
Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) scored their third and final goal of the half. The score was 9-3 at halftime.
The second half started with a Hawks goal score by Malenczak, assisted by Halliday. Roger Williams never let up, scoring eight more times in the second half. Delia netted three straight goals, all within 11 minutes of each other.
Bison freshman
Melanie Chhouy (Pepperell, Mass.), scored the final tally of the game with just a minute and a half to go. Sophomore goalkeeper Justine Sullivan earned the win with 15 saves, while Bison goalie
Danielle Mott (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss with 18 saves.
Roger Williams (8-4, 6-1 TCCC) will next play at Western New England College on April 12th at 4:00 p.m., while Nichols' (1-7, 1-6 TCCC) next game is at Daniel Webster on April 11th at 4:00 p.m.
