Box Score WENHAM, Mass. (Mar. 29) – The Gordon College women's lacrosse team scored eight times in the first half and held off a late comeback to defeat Nichols College, 15-9, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday night. The Scots improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in TCCC play, while Nichols falls to 1-3 overall and in conference games.
The Bison were led by three goals and an assist from
Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) as well as three goals from
Kathleen Dudziak (Williamstown, Mass.).
Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.) added two goals and an assist.
Gordon scored the first two goals of the game before Minelli converted a free position shot at the 22:51 mark to cut the Scots' lead in half. Gordon then went on a five-goal spree before Forand broke up the scoring with her first of the night at 5:47. Stephanie Fitzgerald made it 8-2 Scots with a goal with no time left in the half.
The second half was score and respond throughout, with each team netting seven goals.
Julie Monroe (Whitman, Mass.) capped the scoring with 2:48 left in the game, just 10 seconds after Forand's final tally.
The Bison converted on three of four free position attempts in the game, while allowing three free position goals on seven attempts by the Scots. Nichols netminder
Jennifer Brigham (Bristol, R.I.) made 12 stops in the game, including eight in the first half.
Nichols returns home Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game against Fitchburg State.
