Baseball Closes Florida Trip With 9-3 Win Over St. Lawrence

Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. (Mar. 18) – The Nichols College baseball team wrapped up play at the Gene Cusic Classic Friday with a 9-3 victory over St. Lawrence University at Terry Park. The Bison return to New England with a 5-5- record and are scheduled to open The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday, March 26th at Wentworth.

Mat Whitman (North Plainfield, N.J.) was 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, an RBI and a pair of walks, scoring on a two-run single by Cody Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) in a four-run fourth inning that broke open the game. Jarred Stuczynski (Whitinsville, Mass.) scored three times from the leadoff spot, with single runs for the Bison in the first and third innings and another in the fourth.

Nichols carried a 2-0 lead through three innings, but the Saints tied it up on a two-run double in the top of the fourth. The Bison wasted no time getting back the lead in the bottom half of the frame, capitalizing on three St. Lawrence errors. Nichols put the game out of reach in the seventh with a two-run double from Chris Nemeskal (Swampscott, Mass.) and an RBI single by Whitman.

Bison starter JC LeBarron (Bennington, Vt.) got his first win of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out four through six innings. Scott Leecock (Palmer, Mass.) surrendered just one hit over the final three innings to pick up the save.
