Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 6) – The Nichols College men's soccer team was edged by Albertus Magnus College, 1-0, on Monday afternoon, in the Bison's season opener. The Falcons improve to 2-1 overall, while Nichols will look to get in the win column in its home opener Saturday against Endicott at noon.
Sophomore forward Alphonse Buccitti finished off a rebound from sophomore midfielder Steven Zapata in the 39th minute to give the Falcons the lead. The remainder of the game was not easy for the home team as they played a man down for a total of 54 minutes the rest of the way and was outshot, 13-6, in the second half.
Freshman goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo was outstanding in goal as he made 10 saves on the afternoon. Albertus had a chance to extend its lead when freshman forward Rafael Guillen drilled the top of the post in the 66th minute.
Nichols held a 21-13 shot advantage in the game and received seven saves from junior goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.). The Bison also held a 5-2 lead in corner kicks, including a 4-1 advantage in the second half.
