Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. (Sept. 29) -- Junior Liz Galla and freshman Emilia Boutsioulis each scored first-half goals to lead the Salve Regina University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Nichols College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Wednesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.
Freshman Jessica Lane recorded eight saves in net for the Seahawks, who have won three of their last four matches and improved to 5-5 (3-2 TCCC) on the season. The Bison slipped to 7-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. .
Boutsioulis scored the only goal the Seahawks would need 4:17 into the contest. The play started with a corner kick from the right side by junior Maggie Kane, who sent the ball into the box. Galla played the ball to Boutsioulis, who turned and fired a shot into the top right corner of the net for her first career marker.
Just past the midway point of the half, Galla doubled the Seahawks' lead when she dribbled into the box, cut back and fired a shot into the lower left side of the net. The goal was her fifth of the season and came at 31:49.
The Bison held a 16-15 edge in shots but were plagued by four offside calls. Sophomore Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) started in goal for Nichols and recorded four saves. The loss drops her to 5-2 on the season while Lane improves to 4-2.
The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Colby-Sawyer for a 3:30 contest. The Bison travel to Quincy, Mass. for a 12:30 p.m. match with Eastern Nazarene.
