Men's Soccer Keeps Record Streak Rolling, Blanks AMCATS, 6-0

PAXTON, Mass. (Sept. 22) Sophomore Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) had two goals and an assist as the Nichols College men's soccer team extended its program record shutout streak to five straight with a 6-0 victory over Anna Maria College at AMCAT Field on Wednesday. The Bison improve to 5-1 (3-0 TCCC) with the win, while the AMCATS fall to 0-6 (0-3 TCCC) on the year.

 

The Bison had seven players earn points on the day while outshooting the AMCATS 25-13. Along with Coderre, Nichols received a goal and an assist from senior Michael Schell (South Windsor, Conn.), two assists from senior Brian Filburn (Granby, Conn.), an assist from senior Ryan Wytrych (Feeding Hills, Mass.), and one goal each from freshman Pat Gaumond (Holden, Mass.), junior Daniel Smith (Verona, N.J.), and senior Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.).

 

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) earned the shutout victory in net for the Bison to extend his shutout streak to 501:33. Sophomore Mike Dandurand made seven saves in net for AMC.

 

The match remained scoreless up until the 20th minute of play when Smith took a feed from Wytrych and found the back of the net to give the Bison an early 1-0 advantage.

 

Nichols added goals in the 34th and 38th minutes, as Gaumond and Capitanio scored off of passes from Coderre and Filburn, respectively, sending the Bison into the intermission with a 3-0 lead.

 

The Bison added three more tallies in the second half, with Coderre scoring twice and Schell adding a goal of his own to complete the 6-0 victory.

 

Both team return to action on Saturday, with Nichols hosting Western New England College at 11:00 a.m. for Homecoming, and the AMCATS hitting the road to face New England College at 2:30 p.m.
