BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 21) – The Nichols College women's tennis team remained undefeated on the 2010 season, upping its record to 7-0 with an 8-1 win over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match played at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club.
The Bison swept the doubles action with sophomores Catherine Jaworski (Berlin, Vt.) and Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) posting an 8-1 win at number three spot. First year Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) teamed with TCCC Player of the Week Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) to cruise to an 8-2 win at the top flight before sophomore Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) teamed with classmate Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) to complete the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the second position.
Dyakiv didn't drop a game in her top singles win before Balabanova swept Cappellini, 6-0, 6-0, at number one singles before Balabanova picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the third flight to clinch the match. Jaworski would win at number five singles, and Woodruff handed Deborah Massaro her first defeat at singles play this season, winning 6-4, 6-3, at number four singles.
The Bison improve to 6-0 in TCCC play and host Wesleyan Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Wentworth falls to 1-6 overall (1-5 TCC) and hosts UMass Boston on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
