DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 18) –The Nichols College women's soccer team ran its win streak to three games with a 3-0 victory over New England College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. Nichols improves to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in TCCC games, while the Pilgrims dip to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.

Bison sophomore Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) led Nichols with a goal and an assist, and put the home team on the board in the 16th minute when she drew out Pilgrims keeper Erin Palma and dribbled past her before firing in her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

In the 33rd minute, junior Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) stripped a NEC defender of the ball and played it across to Abro about 40 yards out and the pair started in on net. Abro chipped the ball across from the left side to Shaughnessy as she strode down the right before popping it into the upper right for a 2-0 lead.

Junior Maria DiTommaso (Rindge, N.H.) capped the scoring just before halftime on a direct kick from the top of the box.

The Bison held a 16-8 advantage in shots, with a 9-2 lead in shots on net. Palma finished with six saves, three in each half, while Nichols sophomore Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) earned her first career shutout with a pair of saves.

The Bison are back in action on Tuesday, September 21 in a 7 p.m. TCCC game at Anna Maria. New England College hosts Regis Tuesday at 4 p.m. for a conference game.
