Late Goals Lift Endicott Past Women's Soccer, 2-0

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 11) – The Endicott College women's soccer team scored a pair of late goals to defeat Nichols, 2-0, in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon. The Gulls improve to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the TCCC while the Bison drop their first game to stand at 2-1 and 0-1 in conference action.

After seeing several opportunities dashed, the Gulls finally converted in the 77th minute as Colleen Pepin stripped the ball from a Nichols defender in the box and sent it past Bison keeper Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead. Endicott added to it six minutes later when first year Nicole Fournier found a loose ball in front of the net and placed it in for her first collegiate goal.

Johnson had 11 saves on the day, including a key stop in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless. Twice the crossbar came to her aid, once in the 43rd minute and again in the 57th as the Gulls outshot the Bison, 27-6, on the day.

Her counterpart, Endicott first year keeper Natalie Wyrsch, made two saves for her second shutout of the season.

Nichols returns to action on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Wheelock. Endicott hosts Wheaton in a non-conference tilt Wednesday at 6 p.m.
