Pacific Nets 100th Point in 20-4 Men's Lax Win at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 20) – The Nichols College men's lacrosse team won its second-straight game Tuesday, defeating Mitchell College, 20-4. Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.) led the Bison (4-9) with nine points, including the 100th of his career.

 

Austin Healy (Westford, Mass.) led all scorers with six goals while Pacific, who needed just two points to hit the 100-point mark, added three goals and six assists for the Bison. Nichols held a 69-18 advantage in shots and won all but four of the 29 face-offs en route to victory.

 

Sophomore Adam Grillo scored two goals to pace Mitchell (1-8 overall). Seniors John Kearney and Chris Saunderson each added a goal to help the Mariners' cause.

 

Grillo's first goal evened the score at 1-1 just five minutes into the contest. Nichols responded by scoring seven of the final eight goals of the half to take an 8-2 lead into the intermission. Healy had three goals by the break while Steve Delahanty (Auburn, N.H.) chipped in with a pair.

 

Nichols kept its foot on the gas in the second half, pouring in eight more goals before Mitchell scored with 6:57 remaining in the game. After Grillo netted his second of the contest, Kearney followed with his goal just 17 seconds later to make it 16-4.

 

The Bison scored four times in the final 3:20 to finish out the scoring. Healy found the back of the net twice during the stretch in a span of 13 seconds to round out the six-goal performance.

 

Nine different Nichols players netted a goal in the game. Macaulay Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) had three goals and two assists while Delahanty finished with three goals and an assist.

 

Scott Gray (Annapolis, Md.) played nearly three quarters in goal and made five saves in the win. Shahar Shatzberger (Peabody, Mass.) saw action in the final 16:51 and recorded three stops while allowing two goals. Sophomore Joseph Nott made 18 saves between the pipes for the Mariners in the loss.

 

Nichols returns to action at home against Anna Maria College on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Mitchell will next play at Becker College on Saturday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
