Men's Lax Falls To New England College, 9-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 30) – New England College's balanced offensive attack, including two goals by both Matt Carey and Matt Vozzolo, led the Pilgrims past the visiting Nichols College Bison 9-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Southern N.H. University.

With the win the Pilgrims extend their winning streak to three games improving to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.  The loss drops the Bison to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in the TCCC.

New England College's Clint McDonough would start the scoring just five minutes into the opening quarter putting in a pass from Damian Carey. The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 2-0 just seconds into the second as Matt Carey would score his eighth goal of the season at the 14:07 mark. 

Nichols would get on the board just seconds later as Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.) would score assisted by Matthew Caulfield (Fairfield, Conn.) The Pilgrims would respond closing out the half with two unanswered goals grabbing the 4-1 halftime lead.

NEC would open the second half with a quick score but Nichols would answer with two third quarter goals cutting the lead to just 5-3 with 1:25 remaining in the third. That is as close as the Bison would get as the Pilgrims offense would net the final four goals of the game to capture the 9-3 victory.

Leading the way for Nichols was Pacific who scored once and had an assist for the Bison.

NEC's John Gabriel and Phil DiFlaco each scored a goal and had an assist for the Pilgrims.

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Nick Fischer, who finished with seven saves. In goal for Nichols was Scott Gray (Annapolis, Md.), who recorded 16 saves on the afternoon.

Tim Dooley (Tewksbury, Mass) led Nichols on the draw, winning 10 of 12 faceoffs. As a team, Nichols won 11 of 15 (.733) in the game.

The Bison are back in action at Curry on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. TCCC game.
