Munson Nets 100th Career Point in 11-4 Men's Hockey Win Over Salve Regina

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Nov. 20) – Nichols College senior forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) recorded his 100th career point as the Bison defeated Salve Regina, 11-4, in ECAC Northeast action Saturday evening at Levy Rink. Nichols improves to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action, while the Seahawks drop to 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

The Bison received multiple- point efforts from 10 different skaters while scoring three power-play goals and a pair of short-handed tallies. Nichols finished the night 3-for-7 on the power play while holding the Seahawks scoreless with the man advantage at 0-for-6.

Munson's milestone came on the Bison's eighth goal of the night, 28 ticks into third period when he assisted on Zach Kohn's (Hartland, Wis.) power play goal. It took Munson 88 career games to hit the mark, standing now with 35 goals and 65 assists in his career.

Nichols jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the seven minute mark of the opening frame on strong play from Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ontario) and JoJo Bojanowski (Washington Township, Mich.). Bojanowski sent the puck ahead to Ella for a short-handed breakaway at 3:28, and Ella returned the favor at 6:48 when his shot deflected in front of the net for Bojanowski to shoot through Salve Regina netminder Bobby Balis's (West Haven, Conn.) five hole.

The Seahawks quickly erased the Bison's lead with a pair of goals 29 seconds apart late in the frame. Billy Sabia (Ridgefield, Conn.) knocked the puck off of Nichols goaltender Dylan Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.). William Gomolinski (Western Spring, Ill.) was credited with the assist. Jonathan Cox (Norwalk, Conn.) evened the score with a five-hole shot from the top of the circle after taking a pass from Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) on the right side as the pair skated into the zone.

Nichols capped the period with two goals, ending the period dramatically by scoring with just one second left on the clock to carry a 4-2 lead into the locker room. Blake Bishop (Parker, Colo.) took a shot from the top of the circle and got his own rebound in the crease, batting it out of the air past Balis. Davis and Drew Palmer (North Chelmsford) set up the play to earn assists. Matt Sayer (Lowell, Mass.) ended the period with a dramatic wrap-around score after getting feed behind the net from Robbie Sorrenti (Wyckoff, N.J.) and Davis.

Early in the second period, Anthony Birbilis (Katonah, N.Y.) centered the puck to Henry DeSimone (Burlington, Mass.), but Woodring saved the attempt. David Watkins (Natick, Mass.) was at the post to poke in the rebound at 5:31.

Nichols went on to score three goals through the rest of the period, starting with a pair of even-strength tallies a minute apart before the midway mark. Josh Moles (Fort Wayne, Ind.) skated in from the left circle to pot a big rebound from a shot by Danny Greiner (Columbus, Ohio) at 7:23, ending Baylis's night.
Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) found Wil Brown (Hershey, Pa.) wide open in the slot a minute later as Brown made a quick move and beat replacement netminder Rob Campbell (Braintree, Mass.) on the first shot he faced.

Ella hooked up Bojanowski in the slot for a short-handed score at 13:17, pushing the Bison ahead to 7-3. Ella send the puck in from low in the left circle for Bonajowski to redirect past Campbell.

The Bison outscored the Seahawks 4-1 in the final frame including power-play goals to start and end the scoring for the 11-4 final.

Woodring finished with 27 saves in his first collegiate win. Baylis took the loss with 18 saves and five goals allowed in the opening 28 minutes. Campbell stopped 23 shots and allowed six goals in the remainder of the game.

Nichols is back in action on November 28th in a 3 p.m. game at Babson. Salve Regina faces UMass Boston in the opening round of the PAL Cup at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, November 27th at 1:30 p.m.
