Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 6) – The Nichols College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 3-0 win over visiting Roger Williams University in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Michael J. Vendetti Field Wednesday evening. With their seventh shutout win on the year, the Bison set a program record for shutouts in a season and improve to 8-1-1 overall while remaining unbeaten in conference play at 6-0-1. Roger Williams dips to 4-7-1 overall and dips to 4-2-1 in TCCC action.
First year midfielder Brendan Whitson (Auburn, Mass.) headed in a long cross from classmate Stefan Nagy (Griswold, Conn.) to give Nichols the lead in the 32nd minute. Roger Williams had a one-on-one opportunity in the 40th minute as John Pearson took it in, but Nichols keeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) came up with a big save, one of two in the half.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Nichols extended its lead to 2-0 as Pat Gaumond (Holden, Mass.) headed in a cross from Matt Nash (West Springfield, Mass.). Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) finished a long free kick by Ryan Wytrych (Feeding Hills, Mass.) into the lower right corner just over three minutes later for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Hamilton finished with three saves in the game. Peter Plate stopped six shots in 80 minutes before giving way to Jon Pelloso for the final 10 minutes. Pelloso finished with two saves.
The Bison are back in action on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. TCCC game at Gordon. Roger Williams hosts Wentworth Saturday at 3:30 for a conference game.
