Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 5) – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to defeat host Nichols College, 4-1, Tuesday evening in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Michael J. Vendetti Field. The Hawks improve to 8-3 overall and remain perfect in TCCC action at 7-0. Nichols dips to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
The Bison struck first as Starleena Cash (Springfield, Mass.) carried the ball past Hawks defenders and played the ball past goalkeeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y.) in the ninth minute.
Roger Williams answered right back, however, as Alexa Maher popped in a loose rebound just four minutes later. The Hawks carried a 2-1 lead into the break after Laurin Pendleton tipped the ball to Noelle Marston for a goal amidst traffic in front of the net in the 22nd minute.
Pendleton connected with Katie Fusaro less than four minutes into the second half, crossing the ball in from the right for Fusaro to plant into the left corner and a 3-1 advantage. Maddy Howard capped the scoring in the 87th minute with a free kick from outside the box into the lower left corner.
McGee made three saves in the win, while Nichols sophomore keeper Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) made five saves.
The Hawks held a 20-6 shot advantage in the game, and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Nichols is back in action Saturday in a noon conference game at Gordon. Roger Williams hosts Wentworth Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference tilt.
