Box Score WESTON, Mass. (Sept. 30) – Joseph Neves (Norwood, Mass.) scored two goals on four shots to lift the Nichols College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Regis in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday. The Bison improve to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Regis drops to 2-7 and 0-4 in league games.
Michael Schell (South Windsor, Conn.) opened the game by feeding Mark Capitanio (Mansfield Mass.) for a goal at 40:29. Regis maintained a steady defense on the Bison, but Schell would squeak his shot past Pride keeper Andrew LaMacchia.
LaMacchia had seven saves in 90 minutes. Regis had its attempts on net with repeated shots by sophomore Shawn McDonough. McDonough's first attempt would glide just over the post.
Bison keeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) managed six saves in 68:30 minutes of play.
After the half the Bison returned to the field as strong as the first period, opening with its second goal at 50:49. That was Neves' first score, assisted by David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.)
With time remaining Nichols appeared determined to keep the ball on the offensive, pressuring the Regis defense deeper into its own territory. The Bison managed 11 shots on goal in the second period to Regis's one.
Nichols also took seven total corner kicks, four in the second period.
The Bison are back in action Saturday in a 7 p.m. TCCC game at Endicott College.
