PAXTON, Mass. (Sept. 26) - The Nichols College women's tennis team won its program-record 11th match of the season in a 9-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Anna Maria College at Wachusett High School Saturday afternoon. The Bison improve to 11-0 overall with a 7-0 record in the TCCC after their sixth 9-0 win on the year. The loss drops the AMCATS to 2-8 and 0-7 in the conference.
The Bison swept the doubles matches with little trouble, taking 8-2, 8-1, and 8-0 victories. Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Erin Desmarais (Gardner, Mass.) combined for the perfect 8-0 win at third doubles.
Nichols wrapped up the win by taking all 6 singles matches, dropping only a total of 4 sets combined. Alex Cifone(Bristol, Conn.), Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.), Catherine Jaworski (Berlin, Vt.), and Erica Tolman (West Rockport, Maine) each earned victories without dropping a set, while Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) and Meg Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) took victories 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1.
Nichols looks to keep its undefeated record intact when they take on a tough Colby-Sawyer team in New London, N.H. on the Tuesday. The AMCATS will try to rebound from the loss on Monday when they take on Becker at home.
