DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 19) – The Nichols College women's tennis team continued its best start in program history with a 9-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene College Saturday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The Bison improve to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in TCCC matches, while the Lyons drop to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Nichols dropped just five games in singles action, taking 6-0, 6-0 wins at the first, third and fifth spots led by first-year players Alex Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.), who remain undefeated in collegiate play with their seventh and eighth wins of the season respectively. Sophomore Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) extended her unbeaten streak to five matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Cifone and Miller teamed up for their fourth-straight doubles win, an 8-1 victory over Elise Sleeper and Laura Keith at the top flight. Chloe Carnes (Norcross, Ga.) and Catherine Jaworski (Berlin, Vt.) posted their third-straight doubles victory with an 8-2 win over Stephanie Pestilli and Heather LaFountain, while the duo of Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Erin Desmarais (Gardner, Mass.) defeated Arielle Nazareth and Monica Gonzalez, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
Nichols plays its next four matches on the road, starting with a 3:30 p.m. match at Western New England College on Tuesday.
