(Sept. 19) – Nichols College sophomore Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) scored in the eighth minute, but the Curry College women's soccer team scored five unanswered goals to deal the Bison a 5-1 loss in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Walter M. Katz Field Saturday afternoon. Nichols dips to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) fed Shaughnessy for her second goal of the season. The assist mark the first of Abro's career and the rookie's team-leading 15th point of the season.
Curry (5-0-1, 2-0 TCCC) knotted the game in the 35th minute on Laura Lydon's first goal of the game and the affair remained knotted at the half thanks in part to eight first-half saves from the Bison's Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.).
The Colonels kept the pressure on, however, and opened the second half with a pair of goals 23 seconds apart from Kelly Howe and Suzie Jensen.
Ashley Hansbury put the home team up, 4-1, in the 80th minute and Lydon capped the scoring in the 85th with an unassisted tally. Jensen and Hansbury finished with a goal and an assist each.
Johnson made a season-high 15 saves for the Bison, while Samantha Hardy and Julia Tinetti split the goalkeeper duties for the Colonels, combining for five saves.
The Bison will search for their first TCCC victory Monday when they host Wentworth in a 4 p.m. game.
