Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 12) -  The Nichols College women's soccer team dropped its TCCC opener, 3-0, to Gordon College Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field. Sophomore Chelsea Shaughnessy (Hallfax, Mass.) controlled the midfield and had 3 shots in the game, but it was not enough to lift the Bison.

Gordon scored early in the game, when freshman striker Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, VT.), found herself alone on a breakaway, and put it in the lower right corner for the game's first score five minutes in. The remainder of the first half had Gordon keeping the Bison defense busy, taking 13 shots, and just two on goal. Neither team would score again before halftime, with the Fighting Scots ahead, 1-0.

The second half started similar to the first, with Gordon scoring their second goal nine minutes in, off a breakaway from sophomore Kaelyn McBride (Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania). Nichols tried to answer back off a 20 yard shot from Shaughnessy, but senior goalie Abby Ytzen (Des Moines, Iowa), made the save, keeping the Fighting Scots ahead, 2-0.

Gordon's third goal would come in the 65th minute, again from Nedde, off a pass from junior Kelly Donlan (Burlington, Conn.) which found its way through the defense for the open shot and score.

Nichols took seven shots in the second half, but none would find their way to the back of the net, leaving them scoreless for the match. The final score was 3-0, in favor of the Fighting Scots, who are now 1-0 in conference play.

Ytzen recorded two saves in the shutout win, and improved her record to 2-2 on the season. Nichols junior goalie Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) had four saves in the loss, and falls to 0-1 overall. Nichols is now 0-1 in conference play.

Next, the Bison travel to Baypath College next Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. game in Longmeadow, Mass. Gordon travels to Lesley next Thursday for an 8 p.m. game.
