Women's Lax Halts Skid With 17-6 Win at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team snapped a five-game skid with a 17-6 win at Daniel Webster College Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Field. Led by eight goals and an assist from Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) the Bison improve to 2-5 overall.

 

Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) added three goals and an assist, and Rachel Storey (Cumberland, Maine) chipped in with a goal and three assists.

 

Shawna Kavanagh notched four goals for the first-year Eagles (0-5), while Natalie Bates scored twice.

 

Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) combined with Danielle Mott (Cranston, R.I.) for six Nichols saves, while Amy Prince made nine saves for DWC.

 

Forand put the visitors ahead 1-0 1:17 into the game with an unassisted tally, but the Eagles responded with Kavanagh tying it at the 15:05 mark. Bates added her first 20 seconds later for a 2-1 lead.

 

Yourie and Forand followed with goals at the 16:37 and 17:36 mark respectively, before Kavanagh would tie it in the 25th minute.

 

Nichols followed with four straight including scores from Arianna Perrotti (N. Scituate, R.I.), Mandy Manopla (Wellington, Fla.) and Anna Schmitt (Longmeadow, Mass.) to take a 7-3 lead into the half.

 

Nichols would score five straight to open the second half before Kavanagh followed with two quick scores in the 50th and 52 minutes for a 12-5 game.

 

Bates would add her second of the day in the 58th.

 

Nichols hosts Anna Maria Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in a rescheduled The Commonwealth Coast Conference game.
